US Patent madness
IBM has been awarded US Patent #6,304,886 for:
[A software] tool comprises a plurality of pre-stored templates, comprising HTML formatting code, text, fields and formulas…. Based on the identified templates and supplied data, the tool generates the customized Web site without the web site creator writing any HTML or other programming code.”
This was filed in June of 1998. Er, weren’t Vignette selling StoryServer in 1996? The US Patent & Trademark Office just keeps reaching new highs on the stupidity scale. This is the kind of foolish patent that gets everyone so worried about the W3C proposed policies.
