Guinness v Fireworks, Bed v Footie

With a view to watching a spectacular fireworks fest, met up at the Toucan at 7pm on Saturday. Rather predictably though, we didn’t stagger out of there until closing time, completely missing the display. Oh well, seen one firework display, seen them all — whereas each pint of Guinness is a truly unique experience.

Had to get up much earlier than is sensible on a Sunday to catch the Liverpool v Man Utd match on TV. Which moron decided that 11.30am Sunday kickoffs were a good idea (just so Sky Sports can cram in the maximum amount of live games/advertising)? Probably the same moron that came up with those horribly distracting, animated advertising hoardings at the sides of the pitch. Anyway, it was great match, which Liverpool won 3-1. It was Liverpool’s 4th consecutive win over them, and was thoroughly deserved. Things are looking very good — second place in the Premiership (with a game in hand) and into the second round of the Champions League. As Alex Ferguson said:

Liverpool will be the biggest threat to everyone. They are at the stage we were at four years ago.

After the footie, tucked into a much-needed plate of bangers’n'mash, then had a token stroll along the river in order to reduce my guilt at spending the rest of the afternoon in the pub.

Time for some Sunday night nonsense:
