Spying on you
Courtesy of Technoerotica is a nice little page with links that take you directly to the “opt out” feature of some of the major advert servers. Clicking the links should stop the advertising from those adservers, which is nice.
A sort of related link is the one to doxdesk.com, who have a cool little javascript which can detect some of the major “spyware” applications that may be installed on your computer. You can run the script from their page, or place it into your own if you prefer.
Continuing the theme of snooping, I was having a look at the stats/log for Out of the Trees last night, and was surprised to find quite a few links to my “professional” pages (surprising because I’ve made virtually no attempt to promote it, and haven’t even bothered registering it with any search engines yet). One that caught my eye was from a page in Germany: http://www.daniel-pfanner.de/imp.htm. I had a look, and sure enough there was a link to my site, on a page about Cascading Style Sheets. Unfortunately my very rusty ‘O’ Level German wasn’t really up to translating most of it, so I turned to Google to figure out what the text accompanying my link said. According to Google, “Das eine solche Vorgehensweise zu durchaus ansehnlichen Resultaten führt, zeigen auch heute schon vereinzelte Beispiele” translates as:
also today examples already isolated show such a proceeding to quite substantial results
Now I suspect that’s not the most accurate translation(!), but it does give the impression of being fairly complimentary (thank you Daniel Pfanner!). However, another link to my site can be found somewhere on the message board at exego.net. I didn’t even bother attempting to figure this one out, as it’s all in Hebrew, so I have no idea if they’re saying nice things or not… answers on a postcard…
