Goon but not forgotten

Sadly, comic genius Spike Milligan died yesterday at the age of 83. He was, as Eddie Izzard put it, “the godfather of alternative comedy.” Apparently he once said that when he died, he wanted to be buried inside a washing machine, just to confuse archaeologists in the future. I loved his unique, simple-yet-surreal and anti-establishment [...]

Yet another critical security update for IE.

Neil’s Stag Weekend

I’m back from the stag weekend, just about in one piece. Photos still to come… in the meantime, here are the gory details.
Fiona and Seymour were driving up from King’s Cross on the Friday evening, and kindly made room for me in their car. As we travelled North, we watched with dread as the car’s [...]

Death and Destruction

According to reports, it seems that Daniel Pearl, the poor WSJ journalist kidnapped in Pakistan a month ago, has been executed. His wife is 6 months pregnant. Utterly senseless.
In addition, sadly actor John Thaw has died at the age of 60. He was the star of many great TV series, but I’ll best remember him [...]

Almost Famous and Animal Magic

Bugger, forgot to post anything yesterday about the pallandromic date (well, depending where you are in the world) of 20/02/2002. I was reminded of this by reading Matt’s weblog, in which I get a mention. Apart from Rob, I think this is the first time I’ve garnered a mention in anyone else’s blog!
Today’s hand-picked animal-related [...]

Polyester Dilema

I’m going up to Sheffield this weekend for a friend’s stag night, and have been told to bring some 70s gear. I’m assuming that means bell-bottoms and loud shirts, rather than thirty-year-old cannabis… So, the dilemma is whether to go for the Travolta-esque figure-hugging polyester look, or for the more suave, Jason King-style velvet suit.

Time flies

Reader, forgive me, for I have sinned. It has been ten days since my last waffle… I’ve actually spent the last week or so being fairly productive; apart from working on an e-commerce site for a client, I’ve also knocked together a little PHP script for storing my links, Yahoo-style. I’ve only just started populating [...]

CSS mailing list and FOUC

I seem to get far too much email nowadays as it is, so God knows why I’ve just subscribed to css-discuss, a new (Jan 2002) mailing list dedicated to Cascading Style Sheet issues. Looks like it’s going to be pretty high-traffic too (so I’ve opted for the digest version, which will be easier to go [...]

Drunken googly-eyed freaks

Finally got round to doing a bit of work on Wednesday, and went and had my eyes tested in the afternoon. Apparently my eyeballs are not even remotely spherical, and are in fact shaped like rugby balls. To make matters worse, my right eye is distorted diagonally too. I am a freak. The good news [...]

Wine Cheese Wine Fish Guinness

Simon and I chewed the fat over more-than-several pints of Guinness at the EDT on Monday afternoon/evening. Then, after a wee glass of Redbreast back here, we headed off to Paprika in Camberwell for a pretty decent curry, before ending the night over at the Dogstar in Brixton.
We both felt that a fairly gentle start [...]

My bookmarks script

Far too wet and windy to even consider venturing outside tonight, and sod-all on telly, so I’ve just spent several hours going over my bookmarks PHP script with a fine toothcomb. It’s not quite finished, but it looks nice, validates as XHTML 1 Strict, and actually works. The CSS/PHP still needs tweaking on the search [...]

Catching up

God, February already. This week was pretty busy (lowlights included trying to sort out some Windows XP weirdness, highlights included finally getting this weblog to validate as XHTML 1.0 — cheers Rob!), so I knocked off early on Friday and headed over to the Toucan for 4pm… Finally staggered into a cab at closing time, [...]
