Goon but not forgotten
Sadly, comic genius Spike Milligan died yesterday at the age of 83. He was, as Eddie Izzard put it, “the godfather of alternative comedy.” Apparently he once said that when he died, he wanted to be buried inside a washing machine, just to confuse archaeologists in the future. I loved his unique, simple-yet-surreal and anti-establishment take on the world, from the Goon Show, to his off-the-cuff remarks (e.g. calling Prince Charles a “grovelling bastard”).
“When I look back, the fondest memory I have is not really of the Goons. It is of a girl called Julia with enormous breasts.”
The world is definitely a less silly place without him.
