Still a demand for skyscapers

A few days ago, Southwark Council gave the go-ahead to London Bridge Tower, which, at 66 storeys (305m) high will be the tallest building in Europe. From the BBC’s London Bridge Tower report:

The proposed tower, which has been designed by architect Renzo Piano, will appear as a slender spire of glass with steeply sloping faces made of large shards of “extra white glass”. This combination will make the tower seem partly to disappear into the sky and it is likely to change its character and appearance with seasonal variations of light and weather.

Have to say, I think it looks pretty spectacular. These diagrams of London’s current and proposed tall buildings give a good idea of its scale (tall) and shape (pointy). The rest of the SkyscraperPage.com site is pretty interesting too, with all sorts of photos, diagrams and info.
