UPDATE: The Free Republic of Meles economic upturn
Thankfully my nation is looking a little healthier:
UN Category: Left-Leaning College State
Civil Rights: Superb
Economy: Reasonable
Political Freedoms: Good
Of course there is always a price to pay for economic stability, and with The Free Republic of Meles that price was allowing human cloning and relaxing restrictions on big business. Consequently, the description has now changed:
The Free Republic of Meles is a small, safe nation, remarkable for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate population of 9 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Social Welfare, although Education and Healthcare are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 46%, but much higher for the wealthy. A nonexistent private sector is dominated by the Door-to-door Insurance Sales industry.
Surveillance cameras are banned, political parties are banned from advertising and receiving private donations, scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, and the government attempting to revitalize a gutted private sector. Crime is well under control. Meles’s national animal is the badger, which frolics freely in the nation’s many lush forests, and its currency is the pebble.
Don’t worry though, it’s just a matter of time before I send the tanks in to quell some student uprising or other…
