Shopping for primitive outtakes

A few interesting links today, all courtesy of Mike’s List:

If subjects such as steam-bending wood, tanning a fox hide, fletching (not feltching) by hand, using a bamboo rice cooker, the fire-by-friction methods of the Australian Aborigines, and fishing with poisons interest you, then (a) you’re probably Pat, and (b) you’re sure to enjoy Primitive Ways, [...]

Lessons for Iran

From the Arizona Republic:

If, after you are accused of developing weapons of mass destruction, you submit to international inspection, get ready to be invaded anyway.
If you say you don’t have any such weapons, you are, of course, lying. If inspectors can’t find any, you’re hiding them. And if, after invasion they still can’t be found, [...]

Lying sack of…

“We are asked to accept Saddam decided to destroy those weapons. I say that such a claim is palpably absurd.”Tony Blair, 18 March, 2003
“It is possible Iraqi leaders decided they would destroy them prior to the conflict.”Donald Rumsfeld, 28 May, 2003

Neuticles

For some reason Jon & Lynda have yet to take up my offer of neutering their dog using a couple of half-bricks, and instead keep going on about retiring on the proceeds of their mutt’s pedigree love seed. Still, I think deep down they’re just worried about little Reuben’s self-esteem should he lose his plums. [...]

Got the time? Yes, and a lot of storage space

Ooh, I want one of these—the USB Memory Watch—a wristwatch with built-in 128MB flash memory and a USB connector in the strap. A steal at only 70 quid.

Blurb Gallery

What’s the best way to present headlines and introductions to longer articles on news and portal sites? Victor Lombardi’s been pondering this, and has compared a variety of common methods over at Noise Between Stations - Blurb Gallery.

Fighting kangaroos and dangerous salmon

Atlas Comics has put together a collection of The 12 Dumbest Covers of American Comic Books. Well, ignoring Reform School Girl (which is just how I remember my 6th form common room), I think my favourites are:

Chaplains at War (not actually anything to do with Tony Blair)
Geronimo and his Apache Murderers (political correctness? Who needs [...]

Seaside Snaps

Like most people, I like to take a few snaps when I visit the seaside. So do Gabrielle and Kenneth Adelman. Except they’ve taken over 12,000 photographs of the California coastline, in an attempt to document it before any future environmental destruction.
From a helicopter flying at 500ft, they’ve photographed almost every inch of the coast, [...]

Tony Blair’s default home page

As we British are such an unappreciative bunch, it’s good to know that at least some Americans recognize our Prime Minister’s heroic stance protecting us from Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction evilness. Now you too can thank him and petition for official recognition at ThankYouTony.com. Signatures will be printed on paper and shipped weekly to [...]

Blowing away the cobwebs

The days just seem to be flying by at the moment, and I’ve just realised it’s been over a week since I last posted here — shame on me. Before I go any further, I’d like to thank the people that have offered their condolences after my gran’s death. I wasn’t sure whether my essentially [...]

Walker Evans exhibition

I’m looking forward to going to see the Walker Evans exhibition at the Photographers Gallery (15th May–12th July) at some point this week. Although Evans is best known for his work documenting America’s rural south during the 1930s (for the Farm Security Administration, and his book Let Us Now Praise Famous Men), this exhibition also [...]

Call the ambulance, Troy’s back!

Since my rather inebriated post about Rob & Em’s wedding, I’ve rather neglected World of Badger. Obviously the last week was rather taken up with my gran, but I thought I’d do a quick-ish run down of the ‘highlights’ of the previous week. I will be making copious use of links to e-street, a rather [...]

Feeling sad

Last Monday night I got a call to say my 90-year old grandmother had been taken into hospital with an aortic aneurysm, and wasn’t expected to last the night. I drove back to Wales the next morning to find that she was still hanging-on, despite the doctors having given her only an hour or two [...]
