Chelsea Girls

I’ve been rather snowed-under with work these last few weeks, so I’ve had little time for tracking down interesting bits to post, and very few drunken escapades to report. However, Troy was up in London at the weekend, and on Sunday we went out for a ‘quiet drink’ at the Crown & Greyhound in Dulwich Village. After a couple of pints in the beer garden, we decided to head over to Brixton for ‘a few’… and finally got a cab back here for kebabs at about 3am. During the course of the evening, Simon befriended some of Windrush Square’s local ‘characters’, and the pair of us managed to put the world to rights, drunkenly discussing such interesting topics as national identity, regional assemblies, European integration, the Euro, and Alan Patridge’s cod piece.

Despite feeling a like death warmed-up the next morning, we got over to Battersea for 12.30 for lunch with our old mate Dan. Neither of us had seen him for ages, and as he’s getting married in September, we had some catching up to do. Very enjoyable food and chat, and fair play to Troy, he wasted no time before getting stuck in to the wine (I was still shakingly trying to grasp a mineral water). Dan had to get back to designing big buildings at 2.30, so Troy and I walked across the river and up to the King’s Road to find a nice spot to enjoy the beautiful weather (and enjoy the beautiful girls enjoying the nice weather). I was feeling rather rejuvenated by the food, so didn’t protest when Si suggested Long Island Ice Teas at Henry J Bean’s. After a couple there, we progressed to a cafe/bar in a courtyard near Heals. By 5.30 we found ourselves people-watching in a crowded bar on Sloane Square, and somewhat sloshed. I think it was about seven by the time Si went off to Paddington to get the train back to Cardiff, and I trundled off home with an evening hangover about to start. Day’s like this remind me why I love living in London.
