I can shower again!
Woo-hoo! The water here’s finally back to normal! For five days people around here have had no water thanks to a water main bursting, and Thames Water having trouble fixing it.
I was quite lucky compared to some–at least there was enough water in the taps here for drinking, even if there wasn’t enough pressure for a shower–so thankfully didn’t have to trek to one of the large blue water tanks that have appeared on street corners.
It must have cost some businesses a fortune though–Simon was up here on Sunday, and we searched for a pub with a beer garden serving Sunday lunch, but they were all shut due to lack of water. With the weather being so wonderful still (mid-September, 80 degrees– woo-hoo again!), the amount of lost custom make them want to cry/scream. In the end, Simon and I went to The Green for a posher-than-a-pub-roast meal, where they coped admirably despite the empty taps.
First the electricity, then the water… it’s only a matter of time before the gas supply goes…
