Congrats Dan & Dee, Bon Voyage Troy
My weekend in Cardiff was, well, great fun. Perhaps a little too much fun, because as a result of staying up drinking with friends on Friday night till 5 in the morning, Si and I didn’t manage to get up to the fairytale Castel Coch for Dan & Dee’s wedding ceremony (to be fair, we wouldn’t have been able to actually see it anyway, as the room where it took place was only big enough for immediate family).
However we did manage to get down to the rather impressive St. David’s Hotel in the bay for the reception on Saturday afternoon, and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. More importantly, so did Dan & Dee. The pre-meal nibbles were fantastic, the champagne flowed freely (as did the white wine, red wine and brandy), the meal was absolutely delicious, the speeches were funny (and in Dan’s case, somewhat emotional) and there were a lot of good people there. Sadly, as a non-smoker I had to stand by and watch as Troy and Dan enjoyed a couple of nice Cuban cigars. Grumble. Anyway, it was great to see one of my oldest friends marrying someone as nice as Dee.
Si and I staggered out of the bash at midnight, and went on to a bar in the city centre where we met up with some more friends. Sometime after 2, back at Troy Towers, we cracked open a rather unnecessary bottle of Merlot and attempted to watch Donnie Darko. I still haven’t seen it all the way through…
Of course Troy’s leaving for his three-month tour of the southern hemisphere today, so it would have been rude not to binge drink on his last weekend in Blighty I suppose. Australia’s rather a long way to go to watch your team get slaughtered in the Rugby World Cup, but at least he’ll have the infamous ‘One Night in Bangkok‘ and also get to see a bit of New Zealand too (his plan is to gate-crash the final Lord of the Rings world premier by convincing the doormen that he played Gollum—I think he stands a reasonable chance). Lucky bugger.
