Escape from the Deathstar and other tales of debauchery
I had a business meeting at Microsoft’s London office (a.k.a. the Deathstar) today, which was great because it meant I got to sit outside on their roof terrace overlooking Soho and enjoying the glorious sunshine… both productive and relaxing. Security at the Microsoft offices was extremely tight, verging on the paranoid, which I thought rather ironic. Sadly I didn’t get the free Xbox I was hoping for, as once our business was concluded, I was approached by a tall bloke dressed in black, who declared “The open source force is strong in this one…”. So we went for a pint instead.
Not that I really needed any more booze after an Easter weekend designed to stress-test Southwark Council’s glass recycling facilities… had Rob & Emma round for a meal on Thursday, and Chris, Si and I went to theirs for a chilli on Friday.
Saturday afternoon was spent with Troy, drinking red wine and watching Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (why the hell isn’t it available on DVD in the UK? Criminal). After a curry and yet more wine, we finally made it out by 11pm, ending up at El Gordo at Salvador & Amanda, where we did the sensible thing and sampled a wide range of beverages, from White Russians to Sambuca with beer chasers. Not wanting to be classed as lightweights, we decided to have a kebab and another bottle of wine when the cab dropped us back here.
My, I felt really great on Sunday morning, but unfortunately Troy didn’t seem so chipper when I found him lying fully clothed in the bath muttering about “White Rabbit”. Despite plans to hit the pubs of East Dulwich that evening, we ended up celebrating the Christian festival by watching a few episodes of Father Ted and the Life of Brian with a couple of bottles of plonk.
Before I post anything else, I really must say thanks – and sorry – to the nice people that have left comments here over the last six months or so. The problem is, as I tend to post stuff remotely (i.e. via a popup rather than by visiting the site), I often don’t see comments in time to provide a quick response. However, now that Rob and I have nearly finished the ecommerce gubbins we’ve been developing for ages, I should be able to devote much more time to World of Badger. Hurrah!
Hanni deserves a special mention, as she must think me the rudest person in the world after the friendly comments she’s left here. She’s a Cambridge United supporter, which must be pretty demoralizing at the moment. (Despite being born there, I can’t honestly claim to be a supporter, although I have watched them play in the past, and try to keep an eye on how they’re doing). Anyway, do check out Hanni’s site Pink Socks.
Cheers Mate! Looking forward to the new time devoted World of Badger. Err. I am not so sure that that made any sense whatsoever. Ah well. You get my gist.
Gist received with thanks!
