Campbell – still full of (sh)it

Alastair Campbell, BLiar’s ex-director of spin, yesterday spoke to a committee of MPs who are heading up the inquiry into government communications. He called for Piers Morgan, the Daily Mirror editor, to resign if the photographs of alleged torture of Iraqi prisoners by British troops were conclusively discredited:

If it transpires that these pictures are fake, staged, a hoax—then I don’t honestly see how his position is tenable…. If they are genuine, then it’s perfectly reasonable. If they are staged for political or for commercial reasons, then that’s unacceptable in public life…. This idea that something illustrates a broader point and is therefore justified—when you think of the huge damage it has done around the world and particularly the Middle East—is completely unjustified.

Anyone else see a flaw in his logic here? Newspaper exploits dodgy evidence for political and commercial reasons with serious ramifications in the Middle East: head of newspaper should resign. Government exploits dodgy WMD evidence for political and economic reasons with serious ramifications in the Middle East…
