Keep me away from eBay
If I hadn’t wasted thousands of pounds buying cigarettes for fifteen years, my house would probably look like The Simpsons Museum, which was put together by one chap to show off his amazing collection of Simpsons memorobilia. Some of my favourites include:
- A pewter Homer bottle opener
- The Simpsons light switches
- The Simpsons guitar picks
- A Homer Bar-B-Que
- The Simpsons as The Sopranos t-shirt
- A promo poster for The Be Sharps
- Vast collection of Simpsons trading cards (with photos of each one!)
- The Duff Beer alarm clock:
When it goes off, a hidden door opens and a light goes on over Homer sitting on the couch and it plays the opening theme to the show.
And did you know that “Hoi Hoi” is how Alexander Graham Bell originally wanted everyone to answer the telephone when it rang?
Of course that’s not the only great Simpsons collection online—Jared’s My Simpsons Bathroom is also worthy of a mention.
Staying with The Simpsons, Dr. Sarah J. Greenwald and Dr. Andrew Nestler have compiled a Guide to Mathematics and Mathematicians on The Simpsons. They outline how the programme is an ideal source of fun ways to introduce important mathematical concepts to college students. They have also documented all of the one hundred or so instances of mathematics on The Simpsons, from arithmetic to calculus to Riemannian geometry. Cool.
Coo-eee Badger, did you get lost on eBay?
There was just so much great Simpsons memorobilia to buy that I ended up selling one of my kidneys to pay for it. It’s taken me a while to recover, but it was worth it.
