404 Lazy programmers

Via Pink Socks, 404: Lazy Programmers / File Not Found. Reminds of a site we were called in to revamp a while back - at some point about a dozen pages had been renamed, and some well-intentioned person had created 404s by hand, typing in the File Not Found blurb in each one of the [...]

A week’s worth in one go

Well I’ve managed to resist the temptation to continue the David Blunkett theme from last week’s posts with a comment about his alleged affair with a married woman. Until now…
Normally I really don’t care about politicians’ private lives unless they happen to do something particularly hypocritical or dishonest; they’re only human after all. If someone [...]

Blunkett: enemy of the state

Blunkett really is trying to turn the UK into a police state. His latest proposed changes to the law have just been announced, and include (my initial thoughts in parentheses):

Police to be permitted to arrest suspects for any offence. (Such as dropping a cigarette butt on the pavement.)
New powers to fingerprint suspects at the roadside [...]

Blunkett: the end justifies the means

I’m genuinely shocked, not to mention angry and a little scared, by the news that the Court of Appeal has ruled that evidence obtained by torture can be used in UK courts. In a 2 to 1 decision, Lord Justice Laws and Lord Justice Pill granted the Home Secretary the right to hold terror suspects [...]

Troy’s birthday weekend

On Friday evening I went over to see an old friend who’s recently moved to Clapham. Had about a year’s worth of catching up to do, which we did over a bottle of plonk at his new house, and continued doing over several pints up at the Common. We then headed back to his place [...]

Blue Steel birthday photos

I’ve finally got round to uploading some of my birthday photos. (There are actually loads more, but I have yet to get them off Troy.)

Nothing slips past Badger

Don’t worry, of course I added Dubya’s latest to my random bushisms:
Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people - and neither do we.

Death of a great

Sadly Henri Cartier-Bresson has died, at the ripe old age of 95. Arguably the world’s greatest and most important photographer, and founding member of Magnum, he leaves behind one hell of a photographic legacy, both in terms of his photographs and influence on the medium in general. (See the Magnum [...]

Bush crying Wolf again?

In an article first published on the 19th of July, The New Republic magazine reported that the Bush administration was putting pressure on the Pakistani government and intelligence services to deliver high-value Al Qaeda members before the US election in November.
A third source, an official who works under ISI’s director, Lieutenant General Ehsan ul-Haq, informed [...]

White Wedding at Upstairs at the Gatehouse

I have to say I really, really dislike musicals, so it was with some trepidation that I went up to Upstairs at the Gatehouse in Highgate Village with Rob, Emma, Sophia and Kate on Saturday night. We were going to see a workshop production of White Wedding, a musical comedy set in 1980s club-land, featuring [...]
