The Power of Nightmares
Seems like a good time to remind people to watch the final part of The Power of Nightmares on BBC2 at 9pm tonight.
The first part examined the origins of the Islamic fundamentalists and American neo-conservatives, and the second part looked at how they joined forces in Afghanistan. Tonight’s should be particularly interesting/depressing in the light of today’s result:
The final part tells the story of how today’s illusion of a hidden international network of terror was created, and who benefits from this myth…
But the reason that no-one questions the illusion is because this nightmare enemy gives so many groups new power and influence in a cynical age – and not just politicians. Those with the darkest imaginations become the most powerful.
To my mind this has been the best documentary series in years, a long-overdue explanation of the aims of the people controlling Bush – something so important it should be compulsory viewing for everyone.
If you missed the programmes, the first two are available in small, Real Player (spit) format at the information clearinghouse.
Elsewhere, the BBC’s Mark Mardell wonders whether Tony Blair is a neo-con. Well, according to William Kristol, chairman of the The Project for the New American Century and arch neo-con, speaking on Newsnight last week, yes Tony Blair is a neo-conservative.
This was an amazing three part program!!
everyone should be forced to watch it, although before the election would have been better!!
Does anyone know if it will be available on video/dvd?
Neil
Hi Neil, yeah, it was cracking wasn’t it. A lot of that last programme would have been hilarious had it not had such serious implications. The guys’ innocent holiday video at Disney… the Bond villain cave complex that turned out to be a small hole in a bunch of rocks…
I’d certainly buy a Power of Nightmares book or DVD, but couldn’t see any mention of one on the BBC site. Perhaps someone’s put out a copy on a p2p network?
