Birthday and Spinning Cats

I’ve had a really, really fun couple of weeks, but that has meant I’ve not really had time to post here. It was my birthday last week, and it turned out to be the happiest birthday I’ve had in years (and not just because of the yummy choccy cake pictured above). I had some really great, thoughtful presents, went out for a good meal, spent the evening with some lovely company, and even had a champagne breakfast in bed the next day. The birthday celebrations continued into the weekend, culminating in me drinking too much Brother’s pear cider on Saturday night.
I should also mention Blah, Blah, Blah – a vegetarian restaurant in Shepherds Bush – where I ate the night before my birthday; as a meat-eater I’ve got to say the food was impressive (although if you’re planning a visit, bear in mind that for some reason you can’t pay by card).
Then on Sunday I ventured over to Brockwell Park for the Lambeth Country Show, where I watched a sheep shearing demonstration. Sadly I missed the Ferret Race (for Father Ted fans, there was a hint of ‘See the spinning cat’ and ‘Spiderbaby’ about it all), but I did see a hawking display. One of the tents contained a variety of owls and birds of prey, which were stunning; I’d never realised quite how big Eagle owls are. Vauxhall City Farm had a petting area too, which included a cool sheep with natty dreads. Let’s hope this Dulwich resident wasn’t there for a bit of heavy petting.
