The John McCain age factor
Hardly a TV news item on the US election seems to go by without at least one reporter or pundit trotting out a line like “As the race for the Whitehouse hots up, the Internet is increasingly becoming the main political battleground….”
The political parties on both sides of the Atlantic do seem to have woken up to the potential of the Internet (although they never seem to get it quite right), but of course it’s the unofficial sites that are the most entertaining. I found the picture at the start of this post - an amusing dig at John McCain’s age - on one such site.
As Things Younger Than McCain, or to give it its full name Things younger than Republican Presidential candidate (oh, and did I forget to mention war hero?) John McCain, points out, if elected, John McCain would be the oldest person inaugurated to the office of US President. Their list of things that are younger than McCain includes:
- Picasso’s ‘Guernica’
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- The LP record
- The lubricated condom
- The Golden Gate Bridge
One of their posts gives a perfect example of political parties getting it wrong:
