Foreign Office & India Office – Open House London 2009
Open House London is upon us, and it’s time to start planning the weekend with military precision (or not — we don’t want any blue-on-blue incidents or bombed Afghan weddings…).
The highlight of last year’s event was definitely our visit to the stunning Foreign Office & India Office.
It was busy but we didn’t have to wait long to get in, so if you fancy a look at the opulent fruits of our empire, it’s highly recommended.
We spent rather longer than expected there, so only had time to take in one other site, the Limehouse Accumulator Tower. The octagonal tower was built in 1869 to regulate one of the first hydraulic power systems on the waterways. A nifty bit of engineering, with a good view over the Limehouse Basin and DLR.
For more ideas on what to visit, you can take a look at the places we visited during Open House 2008.
